About BIG

The Beginner and Intermediate Group is referred to as BIG. BIG is set up as a vehicle for hobbyists and aspiring craftsmen to watch demonstrations on various methods of cabinet and furniture construction. As the current coordinator, I enjoy showing basic skills that might push a few limits. These skills include joinery, glue ups, hand and power tool use, and safety, safety, safety. I sometimes tell stories about my experience as a professional cabinetmaker and builder. I encourage people to build the project at home in between BIG Meetings.

Over the years BIG has been coordinated by a number of Guild members and the Group can go in different directions. Woodworking is a very broad field so there are thousands of directions to turn. Participants should ask for specific demonstrations. It is your Guild.

BIG meets on the first Saturday of the even numbered months from October until June. The meeting time and place is listed under the calendar sections on the Guild web site.

Tom McLaughlin is the current subgroup instructor. Tom is a founding member of the NH Furniture Masters and teaches in his studio (McLaughlin Woods).
