Making a Living as a Woodturner

This is going to be a very personal version of what has worked for Peter, with full awareness that everyone's path would be different. Peter will provide a laundry list of strategies, theories and tips that has helped him make the vocation and obsession with turning work for him. You will hear ideas that range from grandiose and philosophical to esoteric and detailed. With luck, some of it might be useful to aspiring professionals.

Peter Bloch (New London, NH) was the first president of the Granite State Turners, and the Overall Coordinator for both this symposium and 3 earlier versions of this event. He has been a full-time craft woodworker for 24 years, and a turner for 19 years. For the last twelve years, his focus has increasingly been on his signature work—the dramatic and functional translucent turned wood lampshades that he invented, and which he shows at a small number of craft shows, through his web site, and in his gallery in New London.
