Turning End Grain

André will be focusing on the basic principles or woodturning in relationship to grain. He will be showing: bevel and shearing cuts; roughing out with a side-ground bowl gouge (SGBG); and cutting into end grain using the SGBG. Then André will proceed to the the use of ring tools and standard hook tools—their configuration, possibilities and limits. Finally he will demonstrate the unique Martel Hook tool and the "skew bowl gouge."

André has taught wood turning for almost 20 years and has trained many hundreds of turners around the world (including over 50 professionals in France). He has also given numerous seminars in Canada, USA, France, England, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Costa Rica. His specialty is end-grain turning, preferring to work with green wood. He offers private, semi-private and group classes in his own studio. The Martel Hook Tool is his own patented design, which he has been making since 1989.
