Bruce Hamilton, a long time Guild member, is in need of a skilled turner. See the rest here.
I am preserving a New England tall chest circa 1750 constructed in walnut. It was badly repaired in the past. After some research for the client it became clear that some elements were lost and replaced by some things that were not correct.
It originally had two tuned drop finials on the lower section. These were probably lost. Some restorer in the past made an attempt to put pieces of flat wood that was curved at the bottom that were completely wrong in attempt to fill the spot of missing finials.
After some research at the Historical Society of Old Newbury I found a very similar tall chest that was in their basement with perfectly turned drop finials. To turn these is beyond my turning skills so I am looking for a skilled tuner who can replicate them based on my measurements and pictures.
