Summer Trip to Thetford, VT
The Summer Trip is just two weeks away. On Saturday morning, June 20, the Guild will be given a special tour of the Pompanoosuc Mills facility in Thetford, Vermont. And while in Thetford, the group will be dropping in on Garrett Hack to say hello and see his shop.
Where is Thetford, VT you ask? Everyone knows it's just south of Fairlee. Not familiar with the Upper Valley? Go up I89 to just over the border in Vermont, turn right onto I91; Thetford is a couple of towns north. See directions below. Pompanoosuc Mills is a maker of fine contemporary furniture, made to order from domestic hardwoods. A visit to one of their local showrooms and seeing the quality of their work will assure you that this tour is definitely worth taking. Visit their website at http://www.pompy.com for more information.
The tour begins at 9:00 am at the Pompanoosuc Mills shop in East Thetford. From Interstate 91, take exit 14 onto South Main Street, which is Route 113 and go east. At Route 5, turn left heading north, and the shop is just up the road. After the tour, for those that wish to do so, members can go on to Garrett Hack’s farm at 344 Jackson Brook Road, Thetford Center, VT 05075.
See Garrett’s shop; it was shown on the back cover of the 2002/2003 Fine Woodworking Tools & Shops. For those packing their lunch, feel free to enjoy the scenery while eating.
To get there, double back to Route 113 towards Thetford Center, go left at Tucker Hill Road. Take a quick right onto Route 132 and then another quick right onto Jackson Brook Road. For those dubious of my directions, just follow members that have been to Garrett Hack’s shop in the past.
