Lecture and Demonstration—Kristin LeVier
Introduction to bending compressed hardwood—without steam or laminations
Saturday February 22nd / 10:30 am – 12:00 pm
Dartmouth College—Student Workshops
Hopkins Center—Room. 62
This lecture discusses the cold-bending of pre-compressed hardwood and will introduce the work of artists, furniture makers, instrument makers and architects working with this compressed hardwood (www.puretimber.com). This wood can be used in place of regular hardwood with impressive and beautiful effects in wood sculpture, furniture making, architecture, etc. Demonstrations will show how this wood can be bent and shaped.
Kristin LeVier is a wood sculptor from Idaho who started working with wood in the Dartmouth woodshop. Her work can be viewed at www.kristinlevier.com. Kristin is currently the Artist-in-Residence at MIT.
This event is free and open to the public.
