Carving Nature—Carving tends to be an intimating endeavor for most craftspeople to undergo. The investment in the tooling, judging the grain in various directions, sharpening the complex curvatures of each tool and, the biggest issue, achieving a sense of life into each carving can be very cumbersome. Along with all of those challenges, carving has no mechanical advantage to the integrity of the piece.
