English Style Garden Bench

James Allen
Groton, MA
Source
Journal—Spring 2019—Issue No 28/10th Anniversary Issue Back Cover

English Style Garden Bench—60˝ wide made from douglas fir. Joinery is all mortise and tenon. The diamond pattern insert is half lap assembled. Finished with boiled linseed oil with three coats of spar varnish. Assembly of the base unit was challenging with the end arm units assembled and glued. I have found that having a second person available for this process is the only way to get this done. I originally made this for my wife’s parents 50th anniversary over 25 years ago. It now resides on our front porch. Since then I have made and sold 12 more to customers in our area.
