The Woodcarver

Khing, the master carver, made a bell stand
Of precious wood. When it was finished,
All who saw it were astounded. They said it must be
The work of spirits.
The Prince of Lu said to the master carver:
“What is your secret?”

Electrolysis Followup

Hi Roger,
Thanks for the nice writeup on using electrolysis as a means of doing the basic rust cleanup on a plane. I would like to emphasize that this is only one of many methods available to the hobbiest woodworker to rescue and begin the tuneup of an old metallic plane.

December 12th meeting notes – Electrolysis

There was a lot of interest in hand plane cleaning and restoration at the December 12th Hand Tool sub-group meeting held at Bill Munch’s shop in Hampton.  Twenty-five Guild members filled the shop, many bringing one or more old planes to discuss and learn about how to bring them to a fully functional state.  This post is the first of several on topics discussed during the meeting.

Oct 10, 2009 Workbench Meeting

The October meeting of the Hand Tool Sub-Group took place at Dave Anderson’s shop and the topic of the meeting was workbenches and their accessories.  There is hardly a better place to have a hand tool meeting than at Dave’s where his bench room is the envy of many woodworkers.

Right Brain?

This theory of the structure and functions of the mind suggests that the two different sides of the brain control two different “modes” of thinking. It also suggests that each of us prefers one mode over the other.
